Distance changes how you date, not whether you can. The best long-distance dates have two things in common: you do something together at the same moment, and you end up with something to remember it by. Every idea below works across time zones and needs nothing more than two phones or laptops.

Take a photobooth strip together

Pick a theme, count down from three and strike four poses at the same moment. Matching outfits, your worst faces, both holding the same snack, or recreating a photo from your last visit all work well.

The fun is in the reveal: seeing your two halves side by side for the first time. In TwoFrames the countdown is synced to the millisecond, so both cameras fire together and the strip lands on both screens at once.

Cook the same recipe on video

Choose a dish you can both buy ingredients for (pasta, a simple curry, pancakes), start at the same time and keep the call running while you cook. Compare results, then eat together with the call propped up at the table.

Tip: agree on the recipe a day early so nobody is hunting for an ingredient while the other person waits.

Answer questions you've never asked

Take turns with questions that go beyond "how was your day". The trick is to write your answer before you hear theirs, so neither of you just agrees. If you're stuck for questions, start with our list of 60.

Draw each other from memory

Set a five-minute timer and draw your partner on a shared canvas without looking at the camera. It will be terrible. Save it anyway: it gets funnier every time you look at it.

Watch a film in sync

Press play at the same second and keep a small video window open so you can see each other laugh. We wrote a whole guide on how to watch a movie together when you're apart.

Plan your next visit like a trip

Open a map and plan one perfect day in the city you'll meet in: breakfast, one thing to see, somewhere to watch the sunset, dinner. Having the plan written down turns "someday" into a countdown.

Play a quick game

Tic-tac-toe, twenty questions or a "how well do you know me" quiz are perfect for nights when you're tired but still want to hang out. Low effort, lots of laughing.

Have a "parallel evening"

Not every date needs a plan. Keep the call on while you both read, study or tidy up. Being in each other's background is one of the most underrated ways to feel close.

Make it a ritual

Whatever you pick, the magic comes from doing it again. A strip every Sunday, a recipe on the first of the month, a film on Fridays: small rituals give the distance a rhythm.
